The Exam Life

I've had a bit of a social life during the past week, but not enough time or energy to write about it. Of course, the most exciting thing that has happened lately is Vappu, which is an insane Finnish celebration of springtime, sparkling wine, and student life. I have some wonderful photos and good stories to share, but not enough time at the moment.

I've received a couple exam scores already, and I'm really pleased with them, so that's a relief. I still have one more exam to take on Monday, and hopefully I've passed another one so I won't have to retake it on Friday. At the moment I'm trying to write three short essays for my postcolonial literature class, but it's been harder than it would seem. I just cannot stay focused. The weather is too nice, and there are so many more interesting things to do than write essays. I also have to write another long essay for my Renaissance drama class. It's difficult to motivate myself since I don't have a firm deadline, but my goal is to get everything done before the 12th, when I leave for the Baltics.

I've also been preoccupied thinking about my traveling this summer. I have to mail some things home, but I can't decide what. I found out that they have UPS in Finland, but it looks like it's going to be a lot more expensive than the Posti. If I end up mailing my laptop home, I'll probably mail it in one insured container, and then the rest of my junk will go in an economy parcel. According to Posti's website, I should be able to mail a package with less than 60 lbs. back to the US through their economy service. I can't imagine needing to mail more than 20 lbs. back, and even if it takes a month to get to California (which it probably will), that's not a problem because I won't even be home yet.

Yesterday I went to Prisma, which is kind of like the Wal-Mart of Finland, minus the blue vests and low prices, and I discovered that they have really nice travel section. I bought myself a very compact travel pillow, which is something I've been thinking about getting for a long time. I've also been distracting myself by booking hostels for this summer, and now, posting here. Sorry if this is all a bit mundane, it's just that I've been preoccupied with academic housekeeping. Speaking of which, I really should get back to this paper...
